Has the tech industry SHUT its doors to HIRING?

Let’s start by saying that, we’ve all heard the terms “the great resignation” and “recession” so many times over the past couple of years, to describe the ebb and flow in the tech industry when it comes to hiring trends. Here’s what we learned about how to navigate the hiring trends in this industry from our EITF experts -

  • To begin with, this is not an uncommon situation.

Our experts say that a lot of them saw the recession coming, even during the great resignation period. So, how do you decide to make a job change without fear? Our experts say that although it is important to pay attention to the performance of a company, it is also important to pay attention to your performance. Shifting jobs, according to them, should be a personal decision with thought given to how a job can supplement your life, rather than the other way around.

  • The second question we asked is, how do we prepare ourselves for a hiring shut down?

Our experts say that the hiring never stops. Companies may close their doors to hiring in some departments, but equipping ourselves with skills needed for futuristic and trending technologies will help a candidate find a new position regardless of the hiring trends in the job market.

  • What factors are considered by a company when they select a candidate to be included in their downsizing efforts during an approaching recession?

Our experts say that there are plenty that are not related to the performance of the individual. Sometimes, it’s purely budgetary, and sometimes, the company decides to shut the project down! Equipping yourself with skills from other departments to show your ambidexterity helps in situations like this.

  • What information should we pay attention to, to predict a recession?

Our experts say that paying attention to the performance of the company at all hands meetings, asking questions about the future of the project you are working on, keeping an eye on the hiring trends of the industry through social media, and interacting and getting to know more people within your own and outside of your own organization to build a network to share information are all good ways to forecast industry trends for yourself.

  • Have all companies shut their doors today?

The answer we got was a surprising and resounding NO. Companies are just selective about the candidates they hire, so equipping yourself with skills outside of your job will help showcase your talents.
